According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the storm will move northwest over the next 24 hours and will be about 170km northeast of Quang Ninh in the early hours of July 3.
For the following 24 to 48 hours, the storm will move mainly in the north-northwest direction at 15km per hour and weaken into a tropical depression in Guangxi Province, China.
The storm is predicted to cause torrential rain in the northern region between July 2 and 6, with a focus on the provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Lao Cai and Bac Giang.
Coastal areas of the provinces from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh will likely have high waves combined with high tides which will affect sea dyke systems and cause flooding in low-lying areas.
Strong winds and high waves are also expected to hit northern part of the East Sea, so ships are warned not to enter dangerous areas with rough sea and strong winds. Approximately 60,000 fishing ships operating at sea have been urgently notified to avoid dangerous areas and seek shelter from the approaching storm Chaba.
