Le Viet Thuan is the featured character of Station of Love, airing at 10:00 AM on November 8 on VTV3. Despite having a slurred voice and experiencing constant muscle contractions, Thuan (from Xuan Cam Commune, Bac Ninh Province) shared that he was born healthy. However, tragedy struck when he was five months old. A burning oil lamp tipped over, setting the bed curtain on fire and leaving him with severe burns.
His family initially sought treatment from a traditional healer, but the burns worsened, leading to a dangerous tetanus infection in his legs. It was only when his condition became critical did his parents borrowed money to take him to Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital, where doctors were able to save his legs. However, walking remained nearly impossible, and he has relied on a wheelchair ever since. After the accident, Thuan lost up to 70% of his physical capacity.
But the suffering did not stop there. Thuan spent nine years bedridden and underwent dozens of minor surgeries. Nevertheless, he longed to go to school like other children.
Despite being eligible for university admission without taking the entrance exam due to his disability, Thuan chose to sit for the national entrance exam in 2013. With extraordinary determination, he passed the exams for both the Academy of Education Management and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). He chose to major in Social Work at USSH, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life. There, Thuan connected with disability communities and humanitarian organizations across Vietnam, becoming an active part of their human-centered missions.
In overcoming fate, personal willpower alone is never enough; everyone needs a companion who understands and supports them. For Le Viet Thuan, every school trip was a challenge, but Dong Minh Hieu, his closest friend, was by his side throughout quietly transporting him to class every day. Hieu became Thuan’s legs, giving him the strength to never give up on his pursuit of knowledge.
Thuan did not stop at overcoming his own challenges. He chose a more meaningful path: walking alongside and encouraging others facing similar hardships. In 2021, Thuan joined the Cerebral Palsy Family Association in Bac Ninh. Not only is he an active member, but he has also become a friend, mentor, and source of inspiration for many families and children living with disabilities.
Through his own resilience, Le Viet Thuan has spread love, courage, and empathy to countless families and children. His presence has helped the local cerebral palsy community find renewed strength and trust in the brighter days ahead.
Station of Love on VTV1 introduces the inspiring story of Le Viet Thuan, a young man who has conquered adversity and continues to spread positivity and hope throughout his community.
