Born into a poor farming family in Ha Nam, Nguyen Thi Xuan’s life has been filled with challenges. The first hardship came when her father was diagnosed with muscular atrophy, leaving him unable to walk or work. The family’s sorrow deepened when Xuan, at just 12 years old, and her younger brother were diagnosed with the same condition.
For a poor rural family, the burden of treating three members was unimaginable for Xuan’s mother, who had to balance caregiving with earning a living. Despite the overwhelming difficulties, Xuan never let her circumstances dampen her determination. Once a healthy and active child, she was forced to reevaluate her life. “At first, I was shocked and felt like I was being left behind,” Xuan said. “But then I realized that instead of sitting in despair, I had to get up, find a way forward, and avoid becoming a burden to my family”.
From the moment she was diagnosed, Xuan worked tirelessly to chart a new course for herself. She began by learning tailoring and bamboo weaving to support her family. However, the physical demands of these jobs proved too muchfor her condition. Refusing to give up, Xuan turned to information technology and started learning photo editing.
When she started working with computers, Xuan discovered that she could use her mind instead of her body to contribute to life. Her perseverance paid off, and she became a skilled photo editor and advertising designer. Her work not only provided an income for her family but also supported her brother, who was also battling the same illness.
Beyond her achievements, Xuan devotes a great deal of time to social activities. As an active member of the Ha Nam Province Disability Club, she participates in and organizes initiatives to help others in similar situations. Through her efforts, she has inspired many and given hope to countless people.
Station of Love provided a platform for Nguyen Thi Xuan to share her journey. In the program, viewers witnessed Xuan passionately present a poster she designed with love and care, using carefully arranged colors and images to convey a message of kindness.
“If I have 100% strength, I will give 100%. If I have 30%, I will give 30%. I always do my best with what I have”, Xuan said during the program. “There’s no limit that cannot be overcome as long as we don’t give up”.
A key part of Xuan’s journey is her family. Her mother has always been a steadfast source of support and courage despite endless hardships. Her younger brother, Nguyen Nhu Thuy, has learned much from his resilient sister and is motivated by her determination to persevere each day.
The heartfelt moments shared on the program were a tribute to Xuan’s incredible journey and a source of encouragement for her to continue her meaningful work. Despite her failing health, Xuan remains optimistic. To her, life is a journey where every step forward requires effort and unwavering faith.
