According to the South Korean Ministry of National Defence, a Russian A-50 military aircraft flew near the disputed islands called Takeshima in Japan and Dokdo in South Korea. Meanwhile, Russia said that two of its Tu-95MS bombers had been on a routine flight over neutral waters and had not entered South Korean territory.
China's Foreign Ministry said that South Korea's air space identification zone is not a territorial airspace and that all countries enjoy freedom of movement in it. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the South Korea's move is unacceptable, referring to the island claimed by both Japan and South Korea.
Tuesday's development is likely to escalate tensions among these countries.
