During this time, most Vietnamese people gather with their families to celebrate Tet, or Lunar New Year. However, the soldiers stationed in the Spratly Archipelago have become used to celebrating the occasion together on the islands, as they have to remain on their posts to protect the sovereignty of the country at all times.
For these soldiers, the islands are home and the sea is where they live, and the letter from their families help bring joy when spring comes to the island.
