VTV.vn - Saving energy is an important message of Earth Hour Campaign 2016.

Before the campaign was launched, households and enterprises in Vietnam were actively saving electricity, bringing about both economic and environmental benefits.

Living in a 25 meter house, Vu Ngoc Dung's family, like others in Hanoi, uses many electronic household appliances for daily activities. In order to save electricity, his family has used energy-saving devices for the past 2 years and seen positive results.

"My family bought this refrigerator many years ago. We did not use any energy-saving devices then, so it uses lots of electricity. We bought a new air-conditioner and use LED lights.  Now we can save over 20 USD of electricity expenses each month", said Vu Ngoc Dzung.

Electricity saving is only one solution to implement the National Energy Efficiency Programme launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2006. The programme has encouraged investment in energy-saving and eco-friendly technologies. After 10 years, nearly 5% of total energy consumption has been cut.

"The Ministry is doing research on energy-saving products. We have also enhanced control over the energy management system and the amount of emissions by automobiles with less than 9 seats, and encouraged people to use insulation material in construction to save energy", said Dang Hai Dzung, Vice Director of Science-technology & Energy Efficiency Department, General Directorate of Energy, Ministry of Industry & Trade.

Electricity consumption in Vietnam is forecast to reach 60 thousand GWH each year, producing 34 tonnes of carbon dioxide by 2030. Therefore, using energy-saving devices not only brings about economic benefits, but also helps the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
