VTV.vn - The 2016 Francophone Film Festival officially kicked off on Thursday, March 17 in Hanoi.

The activity is co-held by the International Organisation of La Francophonie and the Vietnam Cinema Department to celebrate International Francophonie Day – March 20. Since 2007, the Francophone Film Festival has been an annual event in Vietnam.

Nguyen Thiep, National Representative, International Organisation of La Francophonie said: This year, there are fewer films in the festival, but the diversity of the films is stronger than last year thanks to the participation of African countries. This may be the first time that films from East Africa, like “Timbuktu” have participated in Vietnam’s Francophone Film Festival.

With 8 films from 6 countries, namely Egypt, Belgium, Canada, France, Switzerland, and Vietnam, the 2016 Francophone Film Festival shows the diversity of the Francophone community around the world. This is also a chance for Vietnamese viewers to learn more about Francophone countries.

"The International Organisation of La Francophonie is diverse in all aspects. Along with language teaching, music, and travel, French cinematography is one of the best ways to introduce everyone to the landscapes, people and culture of Francophone countries." said Eric-Normand Thibeault, Director, Asia-Pacific Region, International Organisation of La Francophonie .

The two-week film festival will be held in Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City until March 21.
