VTV.vn - Salinity in the Mekong Delta has been increasing since Thursday and has penetrated deep into main estuaries with concentrations expected to be higher than the previous annual average.

The salinity of 4g/liter could encroach about 75 – 85 km deep into the estuaries of Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay rivers; about 48-55km into estuaries of the Mekong River such as Cua Tieu, Cua Dai; and 58-73km into Hàm Luông, Cổ Chiên, Sông Hậu estuaries.

Saline intrusion also affects the water intake of irrigation works in areas about 30-45km from the coast to the mainland from February 18 to the end of March. For areas situated about 45-65 km from the seaside, water intake will be affected during high tides between the 18th and 24th of February, and between the 18th and the 25th of March.
