VTV.vn - Vietnam is home to numerous age-old pagodas and temples with rich cultural and historical value. However, many of them are in danger of being destroyed due to local residents’ lack of knowledge about heritages.

Located 70 kilometers southeast of Hanoi, Thai Duong pagoda is estimated to have been built in the late 17th century and renovated in the 18th and 19thcentury. This estimate is based on the pagoda’s structure and sculptural details. However, just a few months ago, villagers wanted to tear down the pagoda and build a new one.

After learning more about the pagoda, villagers decided to renovate it. Funding for the project comes from the people themselves. They have also requested funds from private sponsors.

Thai Duong pagoda is one among many old structures in Vietnam on the verge of being destroyed due to residents’ lack of heritage knowledge. Even some national relics now face the same fate.
