VTV.vn - An international symposium on Confidence Building in Asia took place in Hanoi on Friday.

Academics and researchers from the region attended the event to discuss international and regional security, the importance of confidence-building and specific measures to consolidate trust among countries in the region.

The security of Northeast Asia is vital as it lies in the world’s dynamic zone of geopolitics and economic development. However, the stability of the region is threatened by issues such as the East Sea dispute. For this reason, the East Sea dispute and ASEAN-China relationship were central topics discussed at the symposium.

Participants at the event concurred that conflicting benefits and lack of confidence among Asian nations resulted in the instability of South East Asia region, and Asia as a whole. There are currently no effective security mechanisms to tackle the East Sea dispute. Some solutions were raised by delegates to enhance confidence among countries.

According to experts, ASEAN is proving its irreplaceable role in the forming an international security structure. Therefore, a detailed and effective co-ordination strategy to combat current security challenges in the region is needed./.
