VTV.vn - Ha Giang Province on November 26 held a memorial and reburial ceremony for the remains of eight fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the fight to protect the northern border.

The remains were repatriated from Giang Nam Village, Thanh Thuy Commune, Vi Xuyen District, to the Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery.

The ceremony saw the presence of former President Truong Tan Sang, Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee Dang Quoc Khanh, and Senior Lieutenant General Do Can – Vice Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army.

Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ha Giang Province Nguyen Van Son emphasised that Ha Giang was the fiercest battlefield in the fight to defend the northern border more than 40 years ago.

More than 4,000 soldiers laid down their lives while an additional 9,000 people were injured. The remains of about 1,000 fallen soldiers have yet to be found.

He noted that Ha Giang is actively promoting a project on clearing bombs and mines while searching for and repatriating the remains of fallen soldiers in commemoration of their great contributions to the nation.
