The proposal, made by the speaker of the lower-house State Duma, was passed on Tuesday.
The country recorded 501 new Covid-19 infections, the highest number of new cases in one day on Tuesday, totalling the number of coronavirus cases in the country to over 2,000 with 17 deaths. The State Duma has also allowed the government to declare an emergency situation across the country if needed.
