He made this requirement in a Tuesday evening meeting of the government standing committee on rice production, trading, and exports.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the biggest goal is to ensure food safety for a population of nearly 100 million people amid complicated developments of COVID-19 around the world. Therefore, Vietnam must control rice export, avoid price manipulation and ensure the benefits for rice farmers.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to promote food production and allow localities with large areas of rice cultivation to export.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is tasked with reporting on this year's rice production forecast and recommending a rice export volume. The Ministry of Finance will soon finish buying enough rice for the state reserves this year.
