VTV.vn - The central province of Quang Nam needs to ensure the best preservation of its UNESCO-recognised World Cultural Heritages, particularly Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam made the statement while paying a field trip to Hoi An Ancient Town and working with Quang Nam leaders on July 21.

The field trip took place as part of activities to implement the Government’s direction on reviewing UNESCO recognised World Cultural Heritages in order to build specific policies to better preserve and promote cultural values of heritage.

Chairman of the Hoi An City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Son said that Hoi An has 1,438 heritages, including 28 national heritages and 47 provincial heritages. There are 1,130 heritages, including nine national heritages and five provincial heritages, in Hoi An Ancient Town alone.

However, Hoi An is facing many challenges including the impacts of climate change and natural disasters, the degradation of relic sites and the trend of purchasing private housing relics.

Hoi An boasts living heritages and relics, thus the conservation of such heritages must ensure the livelihoods of the locals, particularly privately owned relics, creating difficulties for the relevant agencies.

Deputy PM Dam acknowledged efforts of Quang Nam Province in the preservation of its heritage, noting that the province may make a proposition to the Government for the allocation of capital for the restoration and preservation of urgent infrastructure projects this year, particularly the fire prevention and fighting projects in the ancient town to ensure the optimal conservation of heritage.
