Vietnam witnessed a trade deficit of 1.9 billion USD in the first quarter of this year despite a trade surplus of 2.5 billion USD in 2016 and trade surplus in the first half of January, according to the General Statistics Office.
During the first three months, Vietnam's total trade turnover reached over 89 billion USD. Exports totalled 43.7 billion USD and imports reached 45.6 billion USD. China is still one of the main import markets of Vietnam with turnover of 5.9 billion USD. The domestic sector experienced a trade deficit of 6 billion USD while FDI sector recorded a trade deficit of 4 billion USD.
