VTV.vn - The Tet tree-planting festival in the early days of the Lunar Year has become a traditional beauty of the nation.

Following this year’s Tet holiday, many ministries, agencies and localities simultaneously held tree planting festivals to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and respond to the one billion tree programme during the 2021-2025 period which was launched by the Prime Minister. Accordingly, each ministry, agency and locality has set a target on the coverage rate of bare lands and hills as well as the number of green trees in the next five years. In Hanoi and several localities, many groups of volunteers have planted thousands of green trees annually in many recent years. This is a practical action to raise public awareness of creating green landscapes, protecting the environment and joining hands to adapt to climate change. This is more significant as the task of environmental protection is more essential in the socio-economic development and is one of important condition for the nation’s sustainable development.

Each organisation and individual should respond positively to multiply the humanistic meaning of the Tet tree-planting festival. The meaningful activities will be the planting of all fruit trees, industrial trees, production forests, prevention of soil erosion, protection of water sources. The trees are being planted from border areas to islands, from offices and schools to urban areas, villages and roads. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with the spread and joining hands of the community and people, 230,288 hectares of concentrated forests and 80 million scattered trees have been planted, providing 30.5 million cubic metres of wood materials and bringing the forest coverage rate to 42% in 2020.

To achieve the number of one billion trees in the next 5 years is a big goal. Moreover, this programme will have positive impact on the quality of people’s lives and development environment of the nation. In order to reach the number of one billion green trees set by the Government, the synchronous integration of all agencies at all levels and the people’s awareness of environmental and tree protection are essential. In addition to tree planting, it is crucial to care and protect the greenery area and maintain the forests. The Tet tree planting festival not only is a campaign during the spring but also create a positive effect and is spread widely among the society. The agencies and localities should have a roadmap for monitoring the effectiveness of the movement so that the planted trees will grow and develop well.

The big goal should begin from small activities of each person, household, agency and locality to implement the Government’s programme as well as to realise President Ho Chi Minh’s aspiration to make the country more beautiful.
