VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered a speech at the UN Change Conference, COP 21 on December 1st. In his speech, the PM laid out Vietnam’s climate change mitigation efforts.

COP 21 is taking place amid rising concerns about the imminent effects of climate change on every nation. According to the World Meteorological Organisation 2011 to 2015 have been the warmest five-year period on record and the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have reached record highs.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s speech reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitments in coping with climate change.

"We’re here at COP 21to show our commitment to pledges to support and step up the negotiations and adoption of the post-2020 global climate agreement. Its content should ensure equal contributions are made by all countries with balanced contents in terms of emissions reduction, adaptation, financing, technology transfer and development", said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Prime Minister suggested that Vietnam would donate 1 million USD to the Green Climate Fund from 2016-2020.

Vietnam will also stand by its commitment of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent by 2030, and by up to 25% if it receives international support.

According to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda programme adopted by the UN General Assembly earlier in September requires a strong political commitment and close co-operation among participating countries. Vietnam hopes for further assistance from other countries and international organisations for socio-economic development and climate change mitigation.
