This is the first official visit to Laos since Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc took office. The two prime ministers agreed to continue with the agreement reached at the 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, which promotes political, diplomatic, security and defence, trade, investment and infrastructure cooperation, including the Vientiane-Pacxan-Thanh Thuy-Hanoi highway. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart also highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and security in the East Sea, in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea.
