President Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid a working visit to the Political Officers College of the Ministry of National Defence on December 19 on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army (December 22) and the 32nd year of All-People Defence Festival (December 22).
In a meeting with representatives of the college, President Phuc, who is also Chairman of the National Defence and Security Council, emphasized that party and political work is the soul and lifeblood of the Vietnam People’s Army. He spotlighted comprehensive achievements made by generations of officers, soldiers and students of the college since its foundation 46 years ago.
The school has trained over 30,000 political cadres and many other officers of the army and the people's public security force in Party and political work as well as national defense and security education.
Political cadres trained at the school have greatly contributed to the cause of building a politically strong army, improving the quality and effectiveness of Party and political work, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, the Marxism - Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thoughts in the whole army, the President said.
The task of protecting the nation and building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army poses increasingly higher requirements, he said, stressing that the college needs to reform, standardise and modernise its curriculum and teaching forms and methods to ensure their graduates meet standards in knowledge and skills, especially soft skills in management and ideological orientation for soldiers and officers.
The college must maintain the role as one of the core forces in researching theoretical and practical issues, and applying the Party's viewpoints and guidelines to strengthen the Party's leadership of military, defence tasks and army building in the new situation, the President said.
