The State leader made the request at a teleconference held by the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam in Hanoi, on January 9, to deploy the court work in 2018.
In his speech, President Quang praised the court sector for having worked closely with the agencies concerned to conduct their proceedings in a timely fashion, and thoroughly and cautiously consider cases that went on trial years ago but had a petition for a declaration of innocence, with a number of them having been justified, thus ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of all citizens.
He asked the sector to improve its quality and accelerate the settlement of cases, whilst avoiding unjust judgments and missing out on criminals.
The court sector needs to closely follow the Party and State’s leadership on judicial work and judicial reform, and proactively provide consultations for the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control, with regards to the handling of key cases relating to economic activities and corruption, the President said.
He requested that all-level people’s courts focus on administrative reforms, especially the reforms of administrative and judicial procedures in court activities, considering this as a key task of great significance in improving the quality of court work.
As reported at the teleconference, from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017, courts nationwide have dealt with 438,625 cases, equivalent to 89.3% of the total. The number of cases being handled and already handled rose by 6.1% and 8.3%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
