VTV.vn - Typhoon Mirinae caused major damage to the power grid as it brought rain and floods to the northern regions of Vietnam on Thursday.

In an unprecedented development, the four provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh and Ha Nam all experienced complete power outages. As of this morning, work was still being completed to recover from the damage done.

Ninh Binh is currently able to meet 85% of the electricity load, thought this figure drops to less than 30% for Nam Dinh and Thai Binh. Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) estimates that around 1,200 medium-voltage electric poles and nearly 13,000 low-voltage electric poles fell down due to the typhoon.
