My hometown Hue is beautiful like a young moo
Its image reflected on the river flowing free
I love Hue because of this river
Running peacefully in the middle of the city
It’s not hard to find a gathering for poems like this in Huế, as the city is often regarded as a city of poetry. Poems have become an inseparable part of this city, as well as a hobby for many generations.
Dinh Minh Sang, President, Huong Giang Poetry Club, Hue City said: For a long time, Hue has been known as a city of poetry. People say that thanks to the beauty of Hue, even its fruits, birds, and fish can be brought into poems.
Hue City and its beauty have long inspired many Vietnamese poets, from King Duy Tân in the early 20th century to contemporary writers like Tố Hữu, Xuân Khải, and Nguyễn Khoa Điềm. Their love for poetry and the city has now been passed on to the next generations.
"I really like poems, especially the ones that depict the beauty of Hue and make me feel proud of my hometown. Only by coming here can visitors understand why people are so attached to this place", said Doan Nhu Tich, Poet.
As Hue is called the city of poetry, naturally, many residents are poets. However, not all poets here write for a living. For many local poets, poetry is a hobby as well as a way to express their emotions.
Along with other art forms, poetry holds a special place in the hearts of Hue people and also contributes to the city’s cultural values. Coming to Hue and listening to the poets here will be an unforgettable experience for visitors.
