Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the leaders agreed to support the open, transparent, inclusive, rule-based multilateral system, and to soon conclude the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said ASEAN and its regional partners, China, Japan, and South Korea, should promote even more multilateral cooperation and trade liberalisation amid a global economic slowdown, economic friction between world powers, and protectionism.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested that ASEAN+3 countries boost economic and financial cooperation and improve crisis forecasting and prevention through existing cooperation mechanisms. Citing the importance of connectivity in sustainable growth, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed that ASEAN and the three partner countries focus resources to connect infrastructure, enhance digital connectivity, digital business, e-commerce, and smart city construction.
At the end of this summit, ASEAN Plus Three Leaders adopted the Statement on Connecting the Connectivities Initiative.
