Plan to build dossier for Then singing adopted

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently announced that it has approved a plan to put a dossier together seeking UNESCO recognition of Then singing of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethic groups as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The Vietnam National Academy of Music in conjunction with the northern localities where Then singing is common, will compile the dossier. The nomination will then be submitted to UNESCO as part of efforts to promote the value of the traditional music genre and help local communities preserve their heritage. It also promotes cultural exchanges between the Tay, Nung and Thai people and other ethnic groups in Vietnam and other countries where musical genres similar to Then singing is practised.
