During this working session, the World Heritage Committee agreed with the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park managing board to expand the park’s area from the current 85,000 to 123,000 hectares. The park first earned the honor in 2003 for its geological and geomorphologic values.
The site is comprised of 300 caves and grottos, with a total length of about 126 km, which have only been partly surveyed. The second recognition certificate from UNESCO will be granted to local authorities during Quang Binh’s upcoming Grotto Week later this month./.
