After 7 years, under the coordination of Viet Heart Fund from Vietnam Television (VTV) and Vietnam Military Telecommunications (Viettel), the programme has successfully performed surgeries for 2,700 children with congenital heart diseases. Recently, the programme entered the second phase, with the goal of performing even more surgeries.
Mai Anh Tuan's family from Ha Giang is one of the lucky cases that received support from Operation Healthy Heart. His child has struggled with heart disease since birth, but thanks to a timely surgery with no hospital fees, his child can now live normally like other little kids.
Initiated in 2008, Operation Healthy Heart has received support from more than 8,000 individuals, organisations, and both domestic and foreign enterprises. They have received more than 4,000 documents, and solved 2,700 cases. The programme has also run diagnostic tests for heart disease for 16,000 disadvantaged children and improved capacity for 7 hospitals.
In the second phase from 2015 to 2020, the programme aims to perform heart surgeries for 3,000 children and run diagnostic tests for 30,000 children. In addition, the programme will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to expand the list of heart diseases that the programme can cover, and will cooperate with 20 more reputable cardiac surgery hospitals.
