As of 7am on December 24, the storm was located 320 kilometres east-southeast of the Philippines’ central coast with maximum wind speeds of 90-100 kilometres per hour near its eye.
Over the next 24 hours, Phanfone is forecast to move west-northwest at the speed of 20-25 kilometres per hour. The storm will make landfall in central Philippines on December 25 and continue its path into the East Sea.
The storm is expected to be 540 kilometres to the east-northeast of Song Tu Tay Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago at 7am on December 26, sustaining winds of 90-100 kilometres per hour.
