The visit marks a historic milestone in bilateral relations as it is the first visit made by a top Vietnamese political leader since the two nations established a strategic partnership in June 2013 and it's expected to strengthen mutual trust, promote co-operation and foster new developments in the relationship between the two countries. With a population of 263 million people and as one of the founders of ASEAN, Indonesia occupies a strategic position. Indonesia has co-operated with Vietnam in many fields, with trade turnover of 5.6 billion USD in 2016 a figure set to rise to 10 billion USD in the coming time.
