Vietnamese cinema is becoming one of the growing and profitable cultural industries. In 2018, the entire country had 180 cinemas/cinema clusters and 930. Such figure overfulfills the goal set in the Film Strategy until 2020. Meanwhile, Vietnamese movie industry revenue in 2019 was VND 4.1 billion, an increase of 26% compared to the previous year, an all-time high. Many Vietnamese films have improved in quality, changing audiences tastes and make them love Vietnamese movies even more. Many movies have also created impacts and trends on social media.
Meanwhile, digital platforms are becoming the development environment for entertainment services, especially movies. The number of people using online viewing platforms is increasing, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a good foundation for Vietnamese cinema to transform itself with technology, promoting films to a wider audience. Therefore, this is an opportunity for the Digital Content Production and Development Center (VTV Digital) - Vietnam Television Station, in coordination with the Vietnam Film Development Association, to organize the "Vietnamese Film Week on VTVGo".
Each quarter, there will to be a cinema week, of which, the first event will be held with the theme Film Adaptation starting from December 19. In this week, the spectators will enjoy 10 special Vietnamese movies, including: A Phu Couple, I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass, Sister Tu Hau, Mother Is Not Home, Those Days in Vu Dai Village, Don't Burn it, Without Husband Wharf, Those Days, History of Pao and Endless Fields.
In addition to the film screening, the "Vietnamese Film Week on VTVGo" will have sideline activities such as: the inauguration with the participation of famous leaders, actors, actresses and directors; interviews with directors, actors, actresses, film critics, behind the scenes clips, among others.
Sharing his views with VTV News about the reasons for holding the Vietnamese Film Week on VTVGo, journalist Le Quang Minh - Director of the Digital Content Production and Development Center (VTV Digital) - said: "The starting point for this is the Digital Content Production and Development Center's strategy to enrich content offers on VTVGo. Vietnam Television has a rich media asset, but mainly broadcast real-time on TV, so the audience accessibility e to all programs is very restricted".
"Therefore, we want to redistribute the content into VTVGo" - journalist Le Quang Minh added- "In the process of redistribution, in addition to the traditional content of VTV, we believe that more content will be necessary, because the audience is thirsty of a much larger volume of content."
