Areas throughout the north of the country, including Hanoi, are preparing to face a cold snap which is forecast to hit from the evening of January 11, according information released by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Many areas across the north are expected to endure a period of heavy rain that start from the evening of January 11, with temperatures also poised to drop to between 13 degrees and 15 degrees Celsius.

It is therefore likely that several mountainous areas will be potentially the worst affected by the sudden fall in temperature, with a number of locations set to experience drops to 10 degrees Celsius.

Mountainous regions such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, and Ha Giang have all been urged to brace for the potentially deadly impact of landslides, whilst local authorities have been urged to take measures before the weather hits in a bid to assist residents and prevent any significant damage to people, property, and infrastructure.

The cold snap will also directly affect Hanoi, with the wet weather which is anticipated to hit the capital from January 11 to January 12 to happen simultaneously alongside a drop in temperatures to 14 degrees Celsius.

Moving further south, regions in the northern central and central area of the country such as Thanh Hoa and Thua Thien-Hue provinces are predicted to experience showers from January 11 to January 12.

Elsewhere the area between Danang and Binh Thuan provinces will see temperatures at between 21 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius.

The Central Highland region will experience sunny days and rainy nights with temperatures of between 16 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius.

The south of the nation will remain hot with temperatures forecast to stay between 21 degrees and 34 degrees Celsius with little rain at night.
