VTV.vn - The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) has warned northern mountainous provinces of the imminent threat of flash floods and landslides.

Due to the influence of a low-pressure trough passing through the North Central region combined with a wind convergence up to 5000m, from August 27 to August 28, the Northern region will face moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong will suffer moderate to heavy rain, with average rainfall of 30-60mm per period, even reaching over 80mm per period in several places.

The Northern Delta region will face moderate to very heavy rain from August 27 to 28, with average rainfall of 40-80mm per period, even reaching over 120mm per period in several places, mostly in the morning and at night. During the thunderstorms, there will be a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts.

The provinces of Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Tuyen Quang are warned of the risk of flash floods, landslides and local flooding.

In the Hanoi area, showers and thunderstorms with moderate and heavy rain will arrive in the mornings and at night from August 27 to 28. During the thunderstorms, there will be a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong winds.

In the provinces in the North Central region, there will be moderate, heavy rain, very heavy rain in places, with average rainfall of 60-120mm per period, even reaching over 150mm per period in several places.

The area from Quang Binh to Phu Yen will see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with moderate and heavy rain in several places, with average rainfall of 40-70mm per period, even reaching over 80mm per period, mostly in the evening and at night, with a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts.

In addition, due to the influence of the southern edge of the low pressure trench combined with the southwest monsoon, the area from Khanh Hoa to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and the Southern region will see moderate, heavy rain, or very heavy rain in places, with average rainfall of 50-120mm per period, even reaching over 150mm per period in several locations, mostly in the evening and at night, with a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts.
