VTV.vn - Ninh Thuan province faces severe drought. Droughts usually occur from the middle of the year to September, however rain has not yet arrived, so local reservoirs still haven’t accumulated enough water.

A delegation from the Directorate of Water Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are inspecting water sources and developing a water use plan for 2018 and Winter-Spring crop 2018-2019.

The water level in twenty-one reservoirs in the province of Ninh Thuan is only ¼ of design capacity. Don Duong River, the water source for domestic and production activities for Ninh Thuan province, has been at the lowest level in many years, with a useful capacity of only 3 million m3.

The Department of Irrigation requested the local authorities and the agricultural sector of Ninh Thuan province to review the water volume in the reservoirs and to develop a proper irrigation scheme. The use of water must be very economical in priorities for people, cattle, and crops.
