Early intervention for children with disabilities under 6 and improving healthcare training to serve children with disabilities in Thai Binh Province is one among the 6 USAID-funded projects.
During the 5-year sponsorship, the project is expected to train 4,000 doctors, technicians, medical staff, and teachers as well as parents in improving knowledge and skills to take care of disabled children. It is estimated that 1,000 children with disabilities in Thai Binh Province will benefit from this project.
5 other projects will focus on improving collaboration for people with disabilities and the legal framework, as well as a system of services for rehabilitation and speech therapy.
These projects will be implemented in Thua Thien Hue, Binh Phuoc, Binh Dinh, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai and Quang Nam Provinces, worth a total of 14.6 million USD, and spanning over 5-year period.
The US’s commitment to supporting people with disabilities in Vietnam started in 1989 through USAID’s Leahy War Victims Fund. Since 2010, USAID has supported nearly 23,000 people with disabilities in Vietnam through their sustainable services. These include initiatives to strengthen employment and education opportunities as well as building support policies to empower the rights of people with disabilities in the country.
