The council is an independent institution, regulated by the Constitution. According to experts, the council will help improve transparency in Vietnam’s elections and promote the rights of voters. The new body was discussed by National Assembly deputies yesterday.
According to National Assembly deputies, the new council will help minimise shortcomings in previous elections, and enhance transparency and oversight in the electoral process

The National Electoral Council is an independent organisation, established by the National Assembly, instead of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly. Its main work is to organise the next general election and votes for local People’s Council. Also, it is responsible for verifying the status of National Assembly deputies.

The National Electoral Council will report its performance to the National Assembly periodically or without notice.
