VTV.vn - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended the launch of the ‘Tree Planting Festival’ 2018 at the Mao Dien Literature Temple National Special Relic, in the northern province of Hai Duong, on February 6.

Speaking at the launch, the NA Chairwoman stressed the great significance of the festival for Vietnam, which is among the countries most severely affected by climate change.

The country has suffered an increasing frequency of devastating tropical storms in recent years that have caused tremendous losses to life and property, due in large part to deforestation and ecological destruction. For this reason, tree planting and forest protection have become urgent tasks for the country’s long-term strategy, she noted.

She appealed to all localities and agencies nationwide to actively participate in the tree-planting movement in order to help protect the environment and follow Uncle Ho’s teachings.

Tree planting festivals have become an annual event, held during every New Year holiday, since President Ho Chi Minh organised the first event in 1960.
