Mixed fortunes predicted for main agri-exports

The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development predicts demand for Vietnamese rice to rise this year. However, droughts and saltwater intrusion pose a great threat to rice farming. The central region faces the most severe situation. Local authorities have requested consistent assessment of water sources in the region. Countermeasures have been established to ensure stable water supplies for rice farming activities.

Tra Fish however will continue to meet difficulties in terms of entering the US market, following their anti-dumping measures and Farm Bill.  There will also be fierce competition from other seafood products. Tra fish export turnover is forecasted to only reach 1.5 billion USD. Authorities have recommended greater integration in the sector and stronger collaboration with business as a solution.
