Miss Vietnam joins “Dance For Kindness” to promote public health

VTV.vn - Miss Vietnam 2018 Tran Tieu Vy and 1,000 young people in Da Nang City participated in the Dance For Kindness 2019 event on November 17, calling for action against gender violence and promoting HIV/AIDS prevention for the community’s health.

With the theme of "Be kind to your health: Stop gender violence - Prevent HIV/AIDS - For the sake of yourself and the community!", the event created a space for exercising and bringing young people together to awaken kindness in each individual and the community, while popularising healthy reproductive health education, targeting an end to gender violence and promoting HIV/AIDS prevention.

The programme was co-organised by the Central Youth Centre (under the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union), the Lien ket Tre (Youth Connection) Vietnam Club, the DKT Vietnam Organisation and the UN Women in Vietnam, along with other relevant organisations.

The Dance For Kindness 2019 aimed at ending gender violence and promoting HIV/AIDS prevention for the health of oneself and the community.

Dance For Kindness is a worldwide event in celebration of World Kindness Day which falls on November 13 each year. Groups from across the globe join together to perform a Kindness Freezemob/Flashmob to the same song, same dance, all happening on the same day, to show that regardless of the differences in race, religion, ethnicity culture and background, the common thread that ties everyone together is kindness. The event aims to celebrate World Kindness Week to promote kindness and good deeds.

Dance For Kindness has been held in Vietnam since 2014 and spread to multiple cities. In addition to encouraging kindness among people in general, each year the campaign focuses on a specific topic with practical activities to connect young people and raise public awareness to contribute more to the community. This year’s Dance For Kindness is organised with the key them "Kindness to Health".

Vu Minh Ly, the head of the campaign’s organising committee, said: “This year's theme at the Da Nang reaction centre is “Kindness to Health”. Thousands of students and volunteers participated in the event, helping to spread and awaken kindness in each individual by specific and practical actions. Through the programme’s activities, we want to call on youngsters to be kind to their health - for the sake of themselves and the community, and to join hands to end gender violence and promote HIV/AIDS prevention."

Along with the Freezemob/Flashmob dances, the organisers also held a series of activities, including a photo contest on kindness, a children's painting contest on the theme of kindness, visiting patients being treated at the local hospitals in Da Nang, and joining Miss Vietnam 2018 Tran Tieu Vy in sharing information about reproductive healthcare.

According to the organisers, over 20,000 people have signed up to participate in the Dance For Kindness 2019 in Vietnam. The series of events under Dance For Kindness 2019, which have attracted the participation of tens of thousands of students and celebrities, will be held in Vinh City, Nghe An Province, on Sunday and in Hanoi on November 24.
