Accordingly, this year's festival featured 60 models of lanterns which simulate characters in fairy tales, colloquial stories and famous beauty spots of the country for the parade.
The festival will run until October 4 with various activities, such as organizing the Mid-autumn Festival for children, introducing Tuyen Quang province to visitors, modelling of dresses and costumes related to the Vietnamese worship of the Mother Goddesses.
Mrs Tran Lan Huong, a visitor from Hanoi, who was in Tuyen Quang for the first time said: “I was so amazed by these huge lanterns. I can’t imagine that people could make such giant lanterns which hold the record for being the biggest in Vietnam. The local people should be very proud of their festival.”
After its humble start 10 years ago, the festival has spread to several nearby areas and has become a major tourist attraction in the province. Festival attendees believe that the lanterns help them make their wishes come true.
