The event was held jointly by the Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Quang Binh Provincial Youth Union.
At the ceremony, representatives of Quang Binh province’s leaders recalled the tragic event that took place there. During the anti-destructive war in the North, Thanh Trach commune, Bo Trach district, was the target of fierce attacks by the US imperialists in order to cut off transport routes of food and weapons from the North to the Southern front.
On January 13, 1973, hundreds of youth volunteers from C283 and relevant armed forces units sacrificed their lives while performing their mission of transporting goods from ships and boats at Gianh port to warehouses.
The memorial site was built on an area of 9,942 square metres, including a memorial temple, lake, main gate, ceremony ground, and green campus.
Also, at the ceremony, delegates from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee presented gifts to a number of former youth volunteers and policy beneficiary families in the province.
