A Heroic Song of Memory and the Present
Throughout Vietnam’s 80-year journey from the historic autumn of 1945 to the present, music has consistently accompanied the nation, documenting milestones, expressing collective emotions, and illuminating aspirations. In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025), the Arts Department of Vietnam Television proudly presents “Melodies of Connection – Proudly Vietnam”, broadcast at 10:10 PM every Sunday on VTV1. Aiming to honor eight decades of national pride and unity, this program features 80 iconic revolutionary songs, carefully selected by esteemed music experts and artists. The first episode features People's Artist Tan Minh, who also serves on the show’s Artistic Advisory Council.
These 80 songs are more than just melodies—they are 80 milestones, 80 stories, and 80 spiritual portraits. From rousing battlefield anthems to reconciliation ballads and the jubilant independence songs, this program transcends mere remembrance. It breathes new life into these classics through modern orchestration and reinterpretation by young artists representing diverse backgrounds and social groups.
Patriotism in a Contemporary Breath
“Proudly Vietnam” is not just about returning to the past; it is about moving forward together. By blending the legacy of revolutionary music with modern artistic expression, the show creates a profound space of connection across generations. Songs like “The Girl Who Clears the Way” (Xuan Giao), “The Saigon Girl Who Carries Ammunition” (Lu Nhat Vu), or “Greetings to You, the Girl from Lam Hong” (Anh Duong) are not only tributes to female heroes. Still, they are revived with a new contemporary feel that is both dynamic and poignant, modern and deeply symbolic.
During a heartfelt conversation with host My Van, People’s Artist Tan Minh shared, “I was deeply moved when I heard songs like The Girl Who Sharpens Bamboo Stakes or Gratitude to Vo Thi Sau. These songs are not just music—they are vivid portraits of brave, patriotic Vietnamese women who embody sacrifice and resilience. When young artists perform these songs with empathy and creativity, I feel a powerful new current being stirred—one of pride, humanity, and hope”.
Adding to the emotional depth and softness of the program is My Van's graceful hosting, a familiar face from the Arts Department of Vietnam Television. With her expressive voice and poised yet insightful presence, she skillfully weaves the emotional thread of each episode together, bringing the sacred spirit of revolutionary songs closer to today’s audience.
A Musical Space That Inspires Action
The program affirms the role of culture and the arts in shaping national identity and awakening a patriotic spirit. When these songs resound in a contemporary setting—under stage lights and through new performance styles—the audience doesn’t merely hear the music, but truly feels it, relives it, and journeys with it.
Through “Proudly Vietnam”, Melodies of Connection sends a powerful message to young people: Patriotism doesn’t always begin with grand gestures. It can begin with something as simple as listening, understanding, and taking pride in the values passed down from previous generations. Music, like an underground river, always finds a way to resonate with kindred souls and spread its message.
Bridging Yesterday - Opening Tomorrow
As part of the lead-up to Vietnam’s National Day on September 2, “Proudly Vietnam” marks the opening of a special cultural series produced by Vietnam Television throughout 2025. Through music, the program not only commemorates the heroic spirit of the past but also ignites the desire to contribute and create among today’s generation.
Tune in to “Melodies of Connection – Proudly Vietnam” at 10:10 PM on July 6, 2025, on VTV1. Let us reflect on the nation’s 80-year journey through the language of music and hear the heartbeat of a proud, ever-advancing Vietnam.
