Speaking at a conference to discuss the development of macadamia crops, which is taking place in Dak Lak today, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked for a clearer roadmap and execution plan for the production, processing, and marketing of macadamia.

25 years ago, macadamia trees were imported from Australia to be piloted in Vietnam. After five years, farmers in 23 provinces began planting trees in an area of more than 16 thousand hectares, of which most are located in the Central Highlands and the Northwest.

With high economic efficiency and serving both the protection for forests and intercropping with other trees, this year's macadamia output has reached about 4,000 tons, with a value of nearly 800 billion VND.

Vietnamese farmers and businesses are also facing difficulties in accessing loans from banks to plant, purchase, and process macadamia.

With the current growth rate, in the next 10 years, macadamia is expected to become a new commodity for Vietnamese agriculture and reach a turnover of 1 billion USD, of which exports will account for about 600 million USD, creating jobs for about 100 thousand people.
