Visiting the area, the Deputy Prime Minister praised the local authority’s consensus with the people in supporting the Long Thành International Airport project.
"We strongly support this project and hope this process is finished soon so that we can have a more stable life." - Vu Thi Hai, Suoi Trau Ward, Long Thanh Dist., Dong Nai Prov.
The Dong Nai People’s Committee proposed that the government create a special system for ground clearance, compensation and resettlement. Many proposals were submitted, including the use of money from the equatisation of Airports Corporation of Vietnam or from ODA. It is necessary that ground clearance and resettlement begin in 2016 to help stabilise the lives of local people.
"According to the plan, ground clearance will take place until 2018 and construction will be initiated in 2021. However, it will be very difficult for the local people." - Tran Van Vinh, Deputy Chairman, Dong Nai People’s Committee.
In a meeting with local authorities, the Deputy Prime Minister required the Ministry of Transport to consider Đồng Nai province's proposal to begin construction on Terminal 1 two years ahead of schedule.
"If we can implement such proposals, we can reduce time and start building soon. The construction of Long Thành International Airport should also be sped up. We have to start building the airport in 2019.", Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dzung.
The Deputy Prime Minister also visited Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport. As the airport is expected to overload by 2018, the government could allow the use of 30 hectares of military land as runways, and build 10 terminals to ease the burden while waiting for construction on the Long Thành International Airport to finish.
