VTV.vn - The Danish toy production company, LEGO, held a groundbreaking ceremony for its factory in Binh Duong province on November 3 as the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) factory in the province.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and Crown Prince of Denmark Frederik, along with local authorities.

The factory will be built in VSIP III Industrial Park, in Binh Duong province, on an area of 44ha. The project has a total investment of over 1.3 billion USD, becoming LEGO’s sixth factory worldwide and the second in Asia.

CEO and President of the LEGO Group Niels B. Christiansen said this is the first LEGO factory designed as a carbon-neutral facility. In addition to the solar panels on the roof, the factory also has a solar power farm built on the neighbouring land, meeting the total annual energy demand.

The factory also uses state-of-the-art energy-efficient production equipment and meets LEED Gold standards, a globally recognised symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.

The factory is scheduled for completion in 2024, helping create thousands of jobs for local people, while increasing export value and promoting the local economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Duong province Vo Van Minh, said that the LEGO project is the largest high-tech project in the province after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is also a demonstration of investors’ support for Vietnam’s strong commitment at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
