VTV.vn - A number of experts from Japan are poised to arrive in Vietnam on June 3 in order to directly take part in the inspection of the country’s fresh lychee batches which will be exported to the Japanese market later this year.

The move to bring the experts in comes as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently sent a document to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam with regard to granting permission for the group not to be subject to the mandatory quarantine period which would involve them spending 14 days at a hotel in line with novel coronavirus prevention and control regulations.

It is hoped that easing restrictions on the group in line with a request made by the Japanese side will serve to boost the export of fresh local lychees.

In line with this request, the MARD will co-ordinate efforts alongside administrations and relevant agencies from Bac Giang and Hai Duong as a means of taking drastic preventive measures for the duration of the Japanese nationals working within these localities.

According to regulations set out by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, a group consisting of Japanese experts must arrive in the country in order to directly inspect the lychee fumigation facilities before the fresh lychees can be granted permission to be exported to the Japanese market.

Only those lychee batches which have successfully been treated at registered fumigation facilities that meet the standards of the Japanese experts can be exported to the Far East nation later this year.

Recently, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh has held a meeting alongside the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio in order to request that Japanese agencies take flexible measures when recognising the nation’s lychee fumigation facilities and to facilitate the export of the first batch of fresh lychees to Japan.

Following great efforts made by both relevant ministries and branches, lychees from Bac Giang and Hai Duong can now enjoy bright prospects by exporting their first shipments to Japan later this year following five years of negotiations aimed at opening up this market.
