In light of housing in Vietnam as a key sector, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. (BTMU), Hanoi Branch conducted a survey on housing situation in 6 cities and provinces, namely Hanoi, HCMC, Danang, Binh Duong, Vinh Phuc and Ha Nam. The preliminary results reveals that 20%-30% of dwellers live in too small houses of less than 20m2/capita. 67% of them do not have their own house. Noticeably, 60% of the residents show strong demand to purchase a new house due to the small scale and obsolete design of the old house together with income increase.
Japanese enterprises are designing plans to develop housing in Vietnam. The collaboration between private sectors with the government probably in the technology, know-how and financial schemes are underscored.
Addressing the seminar, Mr. Tran Dinh Thien stated that given urban sprawl in Vietnam with higher demand for houses, Japan is regarded as one of the best partners to resolve housing problems in Vietnam. Beside housing policy in Vietnam, the seminar also discussed new house design trend in Vietnam.
