The Israeli foreign ministry said that 40 foreign ambassadors to Israel have accepted the invitation to take part in the ceremony.
Around 2,000 police officers were deployed throughout Jerusalem's districts for fear of Palestinian protests and riots, according to local authorities. The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is not recognised internationally while Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
