The survey was conducted by TotallyAwesome last year in seven countries including Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. TotallyAwesome is a marketing firm that specializes in ads geared toward kids.
Internet penetration is highest in Thailand, at 98% compared with 2% of television. In Vietnam, where the percentage of children who like to watch television is the highest among the surveyed countries, the percentage of children who prefer to access the internet is still up to 66%.
In addition, more than half (58%) of the children surveyed said they use a smartphone several times a day. At 6-8 years of age, the average Internet usage duration is 2.5 hours on weekdays, one hour less than the 12-14 age group.
