VTV.vn - The south west of the Mekong Delta region has a complicated canal system that creates barriers for economic development of the region.

However, during the past 5 years, with appropriate investment to improve the transportation systems, especially road infrastructure, business activities in the region have been completely enhanced. More than 2.3 billion USD has been invested in building bridges, new highways and the upgrading of rural roads. This has helped remove inter-provincial transportation bottlenecks. Important constructions include My Thuan Bridge, Can Tho Bridge, and Hàm Luông Bridge. These important constructions have also help remove the dependency of local residents on obsolete ferries.
