Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam attended the event. Vietnam currently has 7.2 million people with disabilities, accounting for 7.8% of the population.
Almost 30% of this total suffer from particularly bad disabilities. It is predicted that the number of people with disabilities in the coming years will continue to rise due to the aging population, environmental pollution, traffic and workplace accidents. The committee will promote co-ordination between ministries, sectors and localities in dealing with issues related to disabilities. The committee will be funded by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.
