VTV.vn - On the afternoon of July 6, Vietnam reported 248 new COVID-19 infections across 11 localities nationwide, with Ho Chi Minh City continuing to detect the most cases, at 209.

Of the new cases, six are imported, including four in Quang Nam Province and two in Kien Giang Province.

Among the domestically-transmitted infections, 209 were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in Hanoi, seven in Phu Yen, six in Long An, four in Thanh Hoa, three in Bac Giang, and one each in Lang Son, Bac Ninh and Ha Nam. Of them, 182 were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown.

The new infections brought the national count to 21,560, including 19,683 domestic and 1,877 imported cases.

The number of new cases recorded from April 27 to now is 18,113, of which 5,248 patients have been declared as recovered.

There are 12 provinces and cities have not recorded any new cases for 14 consecutive days, including Yen Bai, Quang Tri, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Nam Dinh and Quang Nam.

Since April 29, Vietnam has carried out 3,486,839 tests for 8,226,229 people.

On the morning of July 6, four more deaths related to COVID-19 were announced, all of them were elderly women with serious underlying health issues in Hanoi, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Ho Chi Minh City.

The total number of COVID-19 fatalities has reached 94, of which 59 were recorded in Vietnam’s ongoing severe fourth wave of infections since late April this year.

Also on July 6, Binh Dien agricultural wholesale market in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, was temporarily suspended from operation from 8 am until further notice. Traders have been asked to stop receiving goods into the market, while removing goods from the market by at least 8 pm that same day. All traders, partners and employees at the market have also been asked to strictly comply with medical declaration and coordinate with local health authorities to conduct epidemiological declarations.

Quang Binh Province detected the first positive case for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on late July 5. This was an imported case from Thailand, entering through Cha Lo International Border Gate, and was immediately put into isolation upon her entry. She is now receiving treatment in facility 2 at Hue Central Hospital. According to Quang Binh Department of Health, although this is the first positive case in the province in the current wave, it is an imported case that was handled immediately, so the risk of infection in the community from this case is not high. However, local people are still recommended to strictly follow the 5K regulations to prevent and control the epidemic.
